Personal Goal Setting - The Single Most Effective Way to Set Goals

Charles M. asked:

When asked to write down their goals in life, many people struggle because they think their goals are trivial compared to some of the Bill Gates and Anthony Robbins of this world. Nothing can be further from the truth if their goals are based on one thing. What is it? Every successful person begins with the “End in Mind.” And it is THEIR end! This makes it different from everyone else and truly worthy no matter how trivial it may sound. This is why they call it PERSONAL goal setting.

That “end in mind” concept is very effective because it allows us to work backwards and figure out ways we can get there. Now, as I mentioned earlier, it does not matter if your goal is to revolutionize the way we do business or if it is to be the best parent to your kid(s). As long as you know what YOUR optimal life looks like, you will have no problems coming up with worthy goals.

Unless your optimal life is truly unique, there are lots of resources out there to tell you how to get to where you want to go. So your first goal could be to go to Amazaon.com and find the top selling book in your area of interest. Then go to your local library and borrow it (or pick up a copy for yourself if you like to mark notes in your books).

You will find things that the author did that helped him/her realize what you are after. With that information at your fingertips, you can create many worthy goals, all moving you in the direction you want to go. You do not (and in many cases should not) have to reinvent the wheel. Copying will get you there faster. So in this case, copying is the smartest thing you can do.

In his book “The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People,” Stephen R. Covey covers this “end in mind” concept by having you picture yourself at your own funeral. Listen to what your eulogy sounds like. Do you like it? If not, what would you change? I am sure this exercise will stir up more worthy goals.

This is a simple but powerful concept for brewing up meaningful and personal goals. These goals express what matters most to YOU and are, therefore, just as worthy as a world changing goal!

Use your powerful gift of imagination in all your personal goal setting sessions and you are guaranteed to come up with worthy goals.

Goal Setting Techniques - Tips to Help You Set Better Goals

Benjamin Robert Ehinger asked:

There are many different goal setting techniques that you can use to motivate yourself towards achieving your desired results. Are you trying to change careers, lose weight, become better at any type of skill, or grow a business? These are all good reasons to set goals in order to get to the results you desire. Here are a few tips to help you out.

Tip #1

You can start by setting long term goals of 10 years, 5 years, 3 years, and 1 year. These will give you a basic starting point. Your 5 year goals should break down your 10 year goals, your 3 year goals should break down your 5 year goals, and your 1 year goals should break down your 3 year goals. They should all feed into each other.

Tip #2

Break your 1 year goals down into 6 month goals, 90 day goals, 1 month goals, weekly goals, and daily goals. You want to break all your goals down into the smallest parts for each day so that if you can accomplish your daily goals, then you will accomplish your weekly goals, your monthly goals, and your long term goals. It is much easier to work on smaller parts then to concentrate on the larger goals.

Tip #3

Post your goals somewhere that you can see them each day. This will keep you motivated to reach the goals that you have set for yourself. This is one of the best ways to make sure you achieve your goals. Post them on your door, by your bed, on your mirror, and anywhere else that will remind you of what you are after with your goal setting techniques.

Setting Life Goals Effectively

Lisa McGrimmon asked:

Setting life goals effectively can ensure that you continue to move forward in life despite setbacks. With that in mind, here’s a challenge for anyone who has recently lost a job: Instead of letting yourself focus on all of the negative aspects of job loss, challenge yourself to use this time as an opportunity to grow.

Determine where you want to go from here and commit to coming out of a career crisis in a better situation that you were in before you lost your job. Here are several tips for setting life goals:

Your goals should be positive State your goals as something you are moving toward, not something you are moving away from. For example, instead of saying, “I never want to work for a micromanaging boss again.” try, “I value independence, and I will ensure that my next job allows me to work independently.” It’s much more motivating to work toward a positive goal than to allow yourself to remain focused on past negativity or disappointments. Ensure that your goal is specific If your goal is too vague or general, you won’t know when you have actually accomplished your goal. For example, if you goal is, “I will improve my job searching efforts.” how will you know if you have accomplished that goal? If, on the other hand, you goal becomes, “By Friday, I will tell five business contacts that I’m job searching and ask them to pass on any job leads they may know about.” Then you have a specific goal, and you’ll be able to measure whether you accomplished it or not. Challenge yourself When you’re setting life goals, they should be achievable, but a bit of a stretch. Avoid setting yourself up for failure with goals that are not realistic, but at the same time, challenge yourself just a bit. Set goals that you feel you can achieve but you know you’ll have to push yourself a bit to make it happen. Consider short term, medium term and long term goals Remember, goals can be short term (I will call five business contacts by the end of the week and let them know I’m job searching) medium term (I will find a rewarding job in my field in the next six months) or long term (I will be financially independent and able to retire when I’m 60). Often it’s helpful to establish long term goals first. That way, you can work backwards and ensure that your medium term goals contribute to achieving your long term goals and your short term goals contribute to your medium term goals. This strategic approach to goal setting helps to ensure that you are actively moving your life in the direction you choose. Seeing the big picture of achieving your long term goals, can also help you to stay motivated to achieve your smaller goals because you know they are leading to something bigger. Set congruous goals That just means that if you set several goals, you should ensure that they are compatible with each other. For example, I recently read a magazine article in which the author detailed her goals for the coming year. Her goals (among others) were to lose 15 pounds and to learn to bake all of the delicious cakes and cookies that her grandmother used to make. Now, this author may have more self control than I have, but for me, losing 15 pounds and becoming and excellent baker are two goals that I could not work on at the same time. I would be sampling all of my delicious creations, and the goal of learning to bake like grandma would completely sabotage the goal to lose 15 pounds. Once you have determined your goals, review them to ensure that they support each other. It’s counterproductive to set goals that are not congruous. You’ll just be setting yourself up for failure. Know your values What are your core values: independence, achievement, security, recognition, freedom, commitment? When there is a discrepancy between your job and your values, you run a high risk of career burnout. So, when you’re determining what to do next in your career, consider your values as you set your career goals.

There is no denying that job loss presents challenges and stresses, but it’s not an insurmountable setback. Setting life goals can help you to gain the focus you need to move forward in a positive direction. Commit to yourself and your goals and you can survive and even thrive after a layoff.

Can’t I Just Cut Down An Old Set Of My Clubs To Set Up Our Son For Junior Golf?

Filed under: Recreation And Sports — Tags: , — kuru @ 5:32 pm
Len McGrane asked:

You’d be surprised at the number of school students who play golf. Of the 36 million people in the US aged five and over, who have played at least one round, six million of them are under 17 years old and still at school.

These are our ‘junior golfers’, the five to 17 year olds who are a fast growing segment of the golf market. They have the same interest in golf that we do, but different equipment and training needs.

Take the easy one: equipment. Junior golfers should have proper junior golf clubs.

The day has long gone when I could cut down the shaft of one of my old adult clubs to a length to fit my son’s height — and think I had set him up for golf. That may have worked fine 20 years ago. But club design and materials have made big advances since then and there is now a wide range of high quality junior golf clubs, golf sets and clothing that will fit the height and build of younger players exactly right and make their golf more enjoyable. Also, cutting down one of my old clubs gives the junior the thicker part of the club and this may make it difficult to get a proper grip.

Serious junior golf is better with junior gold clubs.

Equipping a young player is cheaper than outfitting an adult. And new junior clubs, or fairly new ones from a discount store, come with current technology built in and are sized for children. All the major manufacturers make them, so you can get quality clubs with brand names for your young players without having to pay too much.

Another thing. Ball speed and accuracy is determined, to a significant degree, by club weight. Junior golf clubs have been deliberately designed to fit both the height of the player but also the weight is lighter than your average adult golf club. So the strike is going to be easier for your young player.

I know that kids grow and that you will need to replace their clubs several times between five years and high school graduation. But if you hunt for brand names, at the cheapest prices in the discount outlets, your junior player can enjoy good golf clubs as he grows up, and you will still have some money in the bank!

Buffet Table Setting Tips - Setting up the Room

Filed under: Home And Family — Tags: , — kuru @ 6:56 am
Karen L. Talavera asked:

There’s just a ton of buffet table setting advice on the web. All you have to do is a quick search– soon you’ll be overrun with advice on how to add height to your tables. Or how to arrange the dishes you’ll be serving “just so.” Or how to decorate the buffet table like this, or provide these plates, or arrange utensils so they’re easy for your buffet guests to take with them.

And all of this is good advice. But before you can follow any of it, you first have to know one very basic thing: how to set up a room for a buffet reception or dinner party.

But that’s easy, you might say. Just chuck a table against the wall for the food, set some plates up on the end, and set up another little table for desserts and drinks. Done. After all, how much could go into simply arranging a room for a buffet dinner?

Actually, more than you might think. The arrangement of the space in which the buffet is held affects the entire buffet– a well-arranged room reduces spills, looks nice, and makes things easier on your guests. Want to get it right? Read on for three easy-to-follow tips on preparing a space for a buffet dinner.

1. Buffet Table Placement The first instinct of many hosts and hostesses of a buffet dinner party or reception is to place the buffet table against the wall. This keeps it out of the way and allows more room for seating. But if you have enough space, the middle of the room is the best place for the buffet table. Why? Well, if you only have one buffet table setting, it allows equal access from both sides of the room. It also makes it easier to serve from both sides of the table, and allows mingling, snacking dinner guests to chat together in closer proximity to the table. This works especially well for finger food buffets.

2. Distance the Drinks Table. Sure, occasionally a plate is dumped over during a buffet dinner, but it’s drinks you really have to worry about. The best way to prevent nasty spills? Set the drinks table up across the room from the food buffet. This will keep traffic to a minimum, minimizing the chances of guest collisions and nasty drinks spills. As a bonus, it may also prevent guests from trying to juggle loaded dinner plates in one hand and drinks in the other. They’ll generally visit their table to drop off a plate of food before getting drinks, minimizing the chance of spillage. Even better, provide water and wine on the tables themselves, and make getting up to get a drink completely optional.

3. Know the Seating Arrangements. Unfortunately, most of us weren’t blessed with tons and tons of space in which to set up a buffet table. And when space runs short, one of the first things to go is seating. If you don’t have room for designated tables for your guests, chances are they’ll have to perch on chairs, sofa-arms, or whatever piece of furniture they have handy. If this is the case, think of rearranging the dining area temporarily for your guests. Add extra end tables or TV trays to the space, and move chairs and other seating closer to tables, shelves and other places for guests to rest cups, plates, elbows, whatever. There’s nothing worse than being perched on the end of a chair with nowhere to place your drink so you can eat your dinner. Think of your guests. Even if that TV tray looks silly in the middle of the room, put it there anyway.

Watch Pirate Radio Online

Watch Pirate Radio asked:

I had missed Pirate Radio when it came to the theatres so I wanted to watch Pirate Radio online and was looking for a perfect website that would fulfill my wish. I was hunting on the internet so that I could watch Pirate Radio online when a friend of mine told me about this website I uncovered. The speed and clarity that this website provided was perfect and suited my needs very well.

Navigation is a breeze through this website and it doesn’t require you to be a computer geek to figure out how to watch Pirate Radio online here.My main reason why I wanted to watch Pirate Radio online was because I had heard so much about the movie. In fact, I had to undergo a lot of stress before my friend found the website for me. The tedious task of letting the movie load will probably be known to all of you who watch movies online. But when it came to my idea to watch Pirate Radio online I took a stance that I had to look for a site that got rid of all my worries.

Viruses are the major concern on these websites that showcase movies online apart from the minor problems of speed and clarity. Other websites on the internet are often not safe for you PC as they are often the storehouse of the most potent viruses. Not watching the movie is a better option than allowing those viruses to infect your computer. So it is better to look for a website that lets you watch movies without harming your computer. You may not get the results immediately and that can be quite frustrating.

Since there is no visual way in which you can differentiate between the genuine and the infected website it is always better to know where you have to go rather than searching blindly. Websites free of viruses are hard to find but are essential for this purpose all the same. So in case you are lost like me and don’t know where to go to watch Pirate Radio online then you should definitely try out this movie streaming site I found.
